Cal U-Rent employees come from all over the world with fully sixty percent of us from other countries. Three were born here in California, but another three were born in Mexico. One hails from Arizona, a second comes from El Salvador, a third from Guatemala and another was born in the Armenian Republic of the old Soviet Union. While their origins may mirror the diversity of California, their experience and knowledge of rental equipment is universal. Their total rental experience, as of December of 2006, was 103.3 years. Their rental experience with Cal U-Rent is 94.3 years, an average of almost ten years per man. Experience in rental means knowledge of equipment and efficiency of customer service. The proper care and servicing of our equipment also means equipment reliability for our customers. Cal U-Rent has had a long-term policy of cross-training our employees and ensuring that they are familiar with all aspects of our operation. Customer Service Representatives (CSRs) are all certified by Cal U-Rent for equipment knowledge, demonstration and servicing. We equip our CSRs with only the best heavy-duty equipment available in the rental industry. This all means that customers get in and out of our facility quickly with equipment that is regionally recognized for superior quality, operation, reliability and durability.

   

ERICK ROSILES -
Assistant Facility Manager- Counter; Assistant Director of Operations & Maintenance; CSR- Counter; CSR- Yard

Erick was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala and moved to the United States at the age of nine. He has lived in San Fernando Valley ever since his arrival. His first job was as a welder in a radiator shop located in Van Nuys. Erick, the father of five, started with Cal U-Rent in October of 2003 as a Customer Service Representative (CSR) and was quickly promoted to the Counter after only two months. He has since been promoted to Assistant Manager- Counter, in charge of Counter, Yard and Shop operations when the Facility Manager is absent. Erick likes the outdoors, likes to collect old die-cast models and enjoys working on his 1964 Chevrolet Impala. Years in Rental and with Cal U-Rent (DOH 10-16-2003) - 3.3 (2-2007)

   
   
TOMAS QUEVEDO
Lead CSR- Yard; Primary Heavy Equipment Delivery Lead Facility Maintenance:

Tomas was born in Jalisco, Mexico. He came to the United States in 1979, worked in construction and started with Cal U-Rent in April of 1992 as a Customer Service Representative (CSR). Currently, he is certified by the State of California as a Class B driver and is our primary heavy equipment delivery driver. Tomas is really a “Jack of All Trades” with Cal U-Rent. He is our heavy equipment operator, equipment painter, facility painter and plumber, concrete man and is our resident landscaper and gardener. ENRIQUE OCHOA -
CSR- Yard; Small Equipment Delivery; Primary Equipment Painter:

Enrique was born in Guanajuato, Mexico and came to the United States in 1985. He hired with Cal U-Rent to work as a Customer Service Representative (CSR) in September of 1998 after having worked four years as a CSR for Lister Rents of Thousand Oaks. Enrique often delivers smaller (less than 7,000 pounds) equipment on our pickup truck/ hydraulic drop-trailer delivery unit. Additionally, Enrique is our primary equipment painter. He is certified in forklift operation and propane dispensing.

Nick Avakian NICK AVAKIAN
CSR- Yard; CSR- Counter:

  Nick was born in the Armenian Republic of the old Soviet Union. At an age so young (1978) that he does not remember the name of his small village, he immigrated to America. After graduation from high school, Nick started working for an automotive parts store and stayed for ten years. Then Nick moved to a dairy cow plant in their sanitation department for another three years.

A friend told him about an opening at Cal U-Rent and in November of 2004, he hired on as a CSR, Yard. Nick was recently promoted to serve as CSR, Counter and is additionally certified as a forklift operator and propane dispenser. Carlos Linares CARLOS LINARES
CSR- Yard:

  Carlos was born in Santa Ana, El Salvador and moved to Los Angeles, California in 1987, at the age of 13. He moved to North Hollywood in 1991. Carlos has lived in the San Fernando Valley ever since. Prior to coming to Cal U-Rent, Carlos worked for Jackson Shrub Supply Company. Jackson Shrub Supply rented plants and set decorations to the motion picture industry. He is married with three children. Carlos is certified as a forklift operator and propane dispenser. CARL LANTERMAN -
Assistant Facility Manager- Administration; CSR- Counter Business Office Manager:

Carl was born in Downey California and grew up in Bakersfield, California. He has a BS in Electronics from CSULB and an MS in Management from West Coast University in Los Angeles. Carl is an accredited senior equipment appraiser. He also served in the United States Air Force as a telecommunications expert and has spent over 40 years in the telecommunications industry, most recently with GTE (now Verizon). He came to us from GTE and from teaching electronics at ITT Technical Institute. He also developed training programs for a digital switching manufacturer. While with GTE as Capital Recovery Manager, during the transition to a competitive market, he co-chaired an international committee on telephone cost index development, chaired a statewide committee to re-write regulatory depreciation guidelines, and served on various state and national task forces, including: development of telephone industry cost and revenue tracking methods for the Bureau of Labor Statistics (driven by the US Congress), development of tracking techniques for the conversion to digital switching and fiber optics transmission, forecasting technological replacements and forecasting the economics of technological replacements. Locally, he served on the Advisory Committee to the City of Thousand Oaks for the establishment of the Telecommunications Center. ROBERTO RANGEL
Large Equipment Mechanic- Shop; Master Welder & Fabricator- Shop; Secondary Large Equipment Delivery

Roberto Rangel was born in Michoacan, Mexico. He hired with Cal U-Rent as a CSR, Yard but was quickly promoted to Small Equipment Mechanic. After several years, Roberto was again promoted to Large Equipment Mechanic. In this capacity, Roberto has become a master fabricator and welder. He assists in the design and fabrication of new equipment and the reinforcement of existing equipment. Roberto is certified by the State of California as a Class A Driver and is Primary Large Equipment Deliveryman on Friday’s and Saturday’s. Additionally he is certified in propane dispensing, forklift operation and welding.
  Roberto started working as a mechanic at the age of 12 at his father’s farm and business in Mexico. He has worked as a mechanic ever since. Years as a mechanic- 40; Years in Rental and with Cal U-Rent (DOH 3-15-1995)- 11.9 (2-2007)
   
  GREG KUETHER:
Lead Mechanic & Parts Orderer- Shop; Small & Large Equipment Mechanic- Shop:

Greg graduated from High School in California and worked as a machinist and mechanic here before venturing to Arizona. When Greg hired on to Cal U-Rent, he was living in Arizona. Currently, he lives in Ventura County. Greg worked as a machinist for Lockheed for ten years before changing occupations slightly to become a mechanic, which he did for the next fifteen years. RUSS GOODENOUGH -
Company President; Director of Administration; CSR- Counter:

  Russ was born in Fillmore, California. He founded Cal U-Rent in 1976 along with his late partner, Tom Carolan, formerly of Camarillo. Russ currently serves as corporate President.

  He has a BS in general engineering and physics from the United States Air Force Academy and studied for two years as a candidate for an MBA from Cal Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks. After graduation from the Air Academy, Russ served in the United States Air Force as a fighter pilot flying the F-4C Phantom II. In 1969, he started flying B- 727 commercial transport aircraft for Continental Airlines and ended his career flying as a rated Captain on the DC- 10 on South Pacific routes flown out of Hawaii.

  Russ has served on numerous Thousand Oaks City committees including: The Budgetary Task Force; The 401 Hillcrest (Old City Hall) Committee; Thousand Oaks Commercial Signage; Thousand Oaks Website Development; Thousand Oaks Development Focus Group for Community Planning and City Hall Customer Counter Redesign; The Non-Conforming Ordinance Committee; and served as Chairman for The Mayor’s Business Roundtable, meeting weekly with the Mayor and City Manager, for several years. He served as Director of the Thousand Oaks Chamber of Commerce & later as Director of the Thousand Oaks- Westlake Village Regional Chamber of Commerce. He served on numerous Chamber committees and for a year was Editor of and writer for the chamber publication, The Conejo Business Times.

  He founded the West Boulevard Business Group, a merchant’s association and predecessor of the Thousand Oaks Boulevard Association. He served as Regional President of the California Rental Association for three years and as Director of the Newbury Park Rotary. At State level, he was on the Metropolitan Forum Project (for State financing) and Governor Wilson’s Small Business Legislative Advisory Council. Currently he serves on the Board of the Thousand Oaks Boulevard Association and on the Management Committee for the Business Improvement District (BID) for Thousand Oaks Boulevard.
