Free Community Environmental Services

The following cities provide free or reduced rate services for area residents. You do not have to be a city resident to utilize most of the listed services. Cal U-Rent provides metal-sided trailers and dump trailers capable of transporting the garden products @ 25% discount. Check the Discount Section for specific reduced rate rentals to haul and handle these products.
Las Virgenes Municipal Water District provides free compost on Saturdays. Call 818-251-2200 or visit www.lvmwd.com.
FREE Dump Day at the Calabasas Landfill on June 14th from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Call 818-889-0363 for information or check www.lacsd.org.
FREE Dump Day at the Simi Valley Landfill on May 25, 2009, from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm. Call 805 822-7023 or

FREE compost: Call 805-449-7283 for information.
FREE disposal of hazardous waste. By appointment, the first Saturday of each month, area residents may dispose of hazardous waste at the City Public Works facility on Rancho Conejo Road in Newbury Park. Call 805-449-7283 for an appointment and directions. Be sure to call in advance since they send your appointment time through the mail.
Current dates for Household Hazardous Waste Days:
April 4, May 2, June 6, July 11, August 1, September 12, October 3, November 7. Closed in December.
California Mushroom Farm sells mushroom compost for approximately $1.00 per cubic yard. Prices change, so check with them before going. Call 805-642-3253. Mushroom compost is a highly rich product used to grow mushrooms. Mixed with soil, it provides a wonderful supply of nutrients at very little cost.
