When phoning in a reservation or reserving @ our counter, certain items of information will be required. Please refer to our pricing section and have items and prices available prior to placing your telephone call. A deposit is necessary for reservations made by any company or individual that does not have a pre-established credit with us. The acceptable form of telephone deposit is with either: VISA, MasterCard, Discover or American Express.
A valid California Drivers License is also required. You will be asked for that number as well as the Credit Card number over the phone.

CREDIT CARD USE: VISA, MasterCard, Discover and American Express are all acceptable cards for telephone or any other deposit. To guarantee your telephone reservation, a credit card must be used. When reserving, your credit card company places an electronic hold on the required deposit funds. It is in the form of what is called a “Credit Card Authorization Only” hold.

CREDIT CARD AUTHORIZATION ONLY: A Credit Card authorization to purchase is an acceptable deposit. Credit card “authorization only” deposits are strictly authorizations to purchase and verification to us of the availability of credit in your credit card account. It is not a deficit to your account and will not show up on your credit card statement. It does electronically hold the available deposit credit in your account for a short time (depending on the policy of each credit card company bank). This satisfies our deposit requirements.
When paying for the rental on closing of your contract with Cal U-Rent, the final payment may be made by your credit card. When paying for the rental by credit card, the payment is taken out of the authorization amount. Only at that time will it show up on your statement. Your credit card company will still hold the remainder of the “authorization only” for the duration according to their rules.

USE OF ATM OR DEBIT CARDS: ATM or Debit Cards may be used for deposit, but they put a hold on the dollar amount of the deposit for up to one month.

CHECK POLICY: We accept checks made out to Cal U-Rent only. We will not accepts: (1) Two-party checks, (2) Past-dated checks, (3) Checks drawn on banks outside of California, (4) Checks made payable to cash, (5) Impersonalized checks (no printed name or address), (6) Counter checks, (7) Personal checks on trucks. Approved company checks for trucks are acceptable. We require a California Driver’s License with matching photo. No cash refunds are allowed on checks written for more than the amount of the rental.

CONTRACTS- RESPONSIBLE PARTY: The person who signs the contract, regardless of who uses the item, is responsible for the rental. In the case of an employee of a company that has pre-established credit with Cal U-Rent, an authorized employee is the agent for the company and may sign the contract in behalf of the company.

DAMAGE WAIVER: Damage waiver is not insurance but it does protect a renter against any physical damage to Cal U-Rent equipment. Damage Waiver charges are $20 per day for large trucks and $12 per day for smaller trucks. Damage Waiver for equipment is 10% of the rental charge. This is subject to a deductible & some rental items are not subject to Damage Waiver coverage. Please check with the Counter for particulars.

DEPOSITS ON RENTALS: The rental deposit is from 150% to 200% of the expected rental charge. Thus, the deposit is affected by the anticipated duration of the rental. If a customer desires to extend the rental period beyond that listed on the rental contract, he (she) must give an additional deposit to cover the expected time extension. Deposits may be in the form of an acceptable credit card, cash or personal or company check. Personal checks are not accepted for truck rentals.

RENTAL PERIODS & CHARGES: A rental period is the length of time that a rental is charged. A day rental is for 24 hours on all equipment. A week rental is for 168 hours or seven full days. A month is for 28 days. If a unit is rented at 10:00 AM one morning, if it is returned by 10:00 AM the following morning, it constitutes a day rental. The minimum charge mentioned above is for a period that may be from two to 24 hours. The time depends on the type, use and cost of the equipment. Some party equipment minimum rental periods may be two or three days. This is the time allowed for a minimum charge. Of course, the equipment may be returned at any time prior to the expiration of the minimum time period. If that minimum time period is exceeded, then charges begin to prorate on an hourly basis. The normal minimum charge and time is for four hours usage. By the time that six hours of rental have been reached, the charge is the same as if it was a 24-hour rental. Be sure to check with the Counter if there are any questions pertaining to rental periods or charges.

RESERVATIONS- CANCELLATION OF & NO SHOWS:
We are providing reservations as a courtesy for our customers. If a customer cancels a truck reservation within 24 Hours of the SHOW TIME, there will be a $25 charge. If anyone NO SHOWS for a truck reservation, there will be a $50 charge. No shows on equipment reservations may be charged a cancellation fee, depending on the nature of the rental and if we turned down rentals due to the reservation. This is up to the discretion of the Manager.

KEYS FOR EQUIPMENT & TRUCKS- NOT RETURNED: Any key that needs to be replaced will be charged to the renter.

TRUCK & TRAILER RESERVATIONS: In addition to the credit card and California driver’s license numbers required of all reservations, truck and trailer rentals require proof of current liability insurance coverage. When you arrive to sign your rental contract, you will be required to show proof of liability insurance coverage. Usually your auto insurance card that you are required to carry in your vehicle is enough. Whatever document is used to show proof, it must show the policy number and duration. We will copy the document and return it to you. If you have any doubt about rental coverage by your automobile liability insurance carrier, please verify with your insurance agent before you arrive to pick up your truck or trailer. The driver’s license and the liability insurance information must be those of the person doing the renting.
